Gukurahundi

Gukurahundi, en la lengua Shona: La lluvia temprana que limpia por dentro la paja antes de las lluvias de la primavera.

Cita: "Los disparos alrededor nos impiden oir bien, pero la voz humana es diferente de los otros sonidos, puede hacerse oir por encima de ruidos que lo inundan todo, aunque no esté gritando, aunque sea un susurro, hasta el murmullo más leve silenciaría un ejército...cuando dice la verdad."

Las señales que se te cruzan en la vida dan a veces escalofríos...

Ayer me pongo a ver una película... "la Intérprete", sin saber previamente el argumento. Está basada en la ficticia historia de un presidente, llamado Edmond Zuwanie, que al principio de su mandato fue como un héroe para la población y con el paso del tiempo se convierte en un tirano dictador que comete genocidio con su pueblo. En un momento clave de la película, la intérprete fuerza a Edmond a leer una cita escrita por él mismo en su biografía.

Queriendo saber el origen de la cita, busco en Google "Edmond Zuwanie" y el primer link que me sale es "Gukurahundi", de wikipedia, en la que se hace una relación de la película con la historia real de Zimbabwe y Mugabe. Precisamente Gukurahundi es una palabra del Shona, la lengua de Mugabe. 

Todo esto me ha recordado lo importante de hacerse oír y la lucha por los derechos humanos. Precisamente Zimbabwe vive hoy esa lluvia temprana, previa a las tormentas de primavera...metafóricamente hablando.

Espero que esas voces de los zimbabweses limpien la paja del gobierno corrupto... y provoquen esa tormenta que necesitan para llevar vida a su país.

The signs you find in your life make you shiver sometimes...

Yesterday I watched a movie "the interpreter", not knowing previously what was it about. It´s based in a fake story of a ruling president, called Edmond Zuwanie, who was like a hero for his people at the beginning of his mandate and later he becomes a tirant dictator who commits genocide in his country. In an important moment of the movie, the interpreter forces Edmond to read a quote, written by him in his biography.

Wanting to know where this quote was coming from, searched in Google "Edmond Zuwanie" and first link I got was "Gukurahundi", in wikipedia, where they make a relation between the movie and the real History of Zimbabwe and Mugabe. In fact, Gukurahundi is a Shona word, Mugabe´s language.

All this reminded me the importance of speaking out and the fight for human rights. Zimbabwe is now having this early rains, preceding the spring storms, metaphorically speaking.

I hope those zimbabwean voices wash away the corruption "chaff" and create that storm they need to bring life to their country.
